Koh Samui is the clearest example of why the pier matters more than the island. The mainland vehicle ferry from Donsak, on the Surat Thani coast, is the usual way in if you are bringing a car or motorbike, or simply prefer a ferry over a flight: Raja Ferry's own schedule lands at Lipa Noi Pier on the south west coast, hourly from 05:00 to 19:00, about 90 minutes each way, while Seatran Ferry runs the same crossing to Nathon Pier further north on the same coast. The two piers are not close together, so check which operator and pier are on your ticket before arranging a driver. For island-hopping rather than the mainland, Lomprayah's catamarans to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao use Pralarn, Nathon or Bangrak (also called Big Buddha Pier) depending on the specific sailing.
